The Finance Act amendments applicable from this assessment year introduce several changes that corporate taxpayers need to account for in their compliance calendars. Chief among these is a revision to the faceless assessment procedure, which now allows for a structured video-conferencing hearing on request rather than as a discretionary allowance.

TDS thresholds on payments for professional and technical services have also been recalibrated, with the revised limits applying uniformly across resident and non-resident contracts save for treaty-specific carve-outs. Businesses engaging consultants, auditors, or technical service providers should review existing vendor contracts to confirm the correct rate is being deducted at source.

Compliance timelines for revised and belated returns have been tightened, and the amendments introduce stricter documentation requirements for claiming deductions under Chapter VI-A. We recommend a mid-year internal review of TDS deduction registers and advance tax computations to avoid interest exposure under Sections 234B and 234C.

Corporate taxpayers with cross-border transactions should also note the updated guidance on attribution of profits to permanent establishments, which now leans more heavily on functional and risk analysis documentation. Maintaining contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation remains the most effective safeguard against scrutiny.
